Merzci got it right the first time with their new Fried Chicken Flavors. “There are three, Donya,” the Donya’s executive assistant Maria Lovella Curacha reported, “Merzci has just put out in thirty of their fast food outlets Soy Garlic Fried Chicken, Spicy Sriracha Fried Chicken, and Honey Glazed Fried Chicken.”
The Donya exclaimed, “That’s interesting! Very interesting! Sometimes, I crave for fast food, but what I see are common and run-of-the-mill. You must bring me some!”
“Right now?” asked Maria Lovella Curacha.
“Right now.”
Sure enough, it won’t be long before three paper boxes were sent to the Donya’s massive and richly-appointed private quarters. But, of course, that’s fast food for you. The Donya remembers one trip to Rome where the handsome waiter finally delivered a chicken dish one hour after she ordered it, (and after she had counted the Spanish Steps a million times.) The Donya could only sigh, “Now, I know why they call Rome the Eternal City.”
The Donya was impressed with the biodegradable packaging. Muy bien! If it is good for the environment, then, it is good for the Donya. The next step is, como siempre, the taste. And the nose knows before the taste buds do. So, the Donya starts out by opening the boxes one by one, and indulging her olfactory senses.
It was a little game the Donya indulged in that day. Perhaps she was just bored counting her money, or got fed up with the tantrums of her suplada chihuahua Guapita who refused to have her yaya Alexandra put on her velvet pearl-embroidered collar. Just what is the matter with this fat brat? “No, no, no, Guapita! We are not friends today. However, I will make you watch me eat my Merzci Fried Chicken, and you, you bug-eyed bum, will not get a morsel!”
The game was to guess the flavor of each fried chicken and guess it blindfolded. What’s the point? The Donya just wanted to show off her hand-woven hablon scarf produced by the women of Valladolid in Negros. Not Spain. But Negros. Then, the taste test followed.
The Honey-Glazed Fried Chicken: the sweet and savory honey aroma will surely attract children like bees to…honey.
The Soy Garlic Fried Chicken: sweet-sour-garlicky flavor on the salty side that is perfect for those seeking the sea salt sharpness to go with rice. And more rice.
The Spicy Sriracha Fried Chicken: Merzci’s version of the popular Thai tang-and-spice combination from the thick savory sauce to the juicy chicken meat.
The Spicy Sriracha Fried Chicken is the fried chicken flavor that caught the Donya’s tastebuds. Each tasty morsel leaves behind a mouthful of umami and that distinctive peppery heat that makes sriracha sriracha. ‘Twas an enjoyable sensation that made the Donya sing La Cucuracha.
The Donya being the Donya spread the love by buying her staff Merzci Fried Chicken in all three new flavors! These variants can be ordered as one-piece fried chicken with rice, or with spaghetti; or binge on a two-piece chicken with rice. The highly-efficient and highly-paid members of the Donya’s staff preferred the single piece with rice although they could also order Combo Meals of fried chicken, pancit, and lumpia shanghai, and the six-piece Salo Salo Fried Chicken. But the staff did not want to share, the selfish sillies. Aren’t they adorable?
Even without the Donya, the staff can pretty much afford to order their own Merzci Fried Chicken. Prices start at a pocket-friendly P79.00!
The nearest Merzci Fast Food branch can fill the Donya’s cravings for Spicy Sriracha Fried Chicken. And if her chauffeur Nillos happens to take off for his periodical vacation, there are Food Panda, SC Food Riders, and iLoveUSAM food deliveries. There will always be full stomachs in the Donya’s mansion.
